The Milwaukee Brewers kicked off the fall football season Tuesday night with three touchdowns plus a conversion in an impressive 22-0 shutout against the Seattle Mariners.
“Brewers starting quarterback Bryce Miller just kept throwing one perfect pass after another to every one of the team’s receivers – the connection to Christian Yelich was especially beautiful,” said ESPN Tueday Night Football commentator Joe Buck. “Meanwhile, unfortunately it seemed the Mariners couldn’t even manage to score a single field goal. Well, at least it’s just the beginning of the season and they have plenty of time to improve before the playoffs.”
Things got worse for the Mariners after obviously concussed wide receiver Julio Rodriguez mistakenly celebrated what he thought was the end of a Brewers fourth down when it was actually first down by spiking the ball into the crowd.
“Showboating like that in the NFL is never a good idea, especially in that situation so I’ll talk to him,” said Team Manager Dan Wilson in an aftergame interview. “We thought maybe we could get on the scoreboard with a Cal Raleigh tush push, but it just didn’t go our way tonight.”
The Mariners’ next home football game in SoDo is this Friday against the Chicago Baby Bears.
