Organizers for this Labor Day Weekend’s Bumbershoot are reportedly still struggling to compete with newer, smaller, and more lightweight music festival “Rain Jacket” as it attracts big headliners and sponsors like North Face, Gore-Tex and Arc’teryx.

“Bumbershoot takes up too much space in Seattle Center—it’s just rude if you think about it,” said Rain Jacket’s founder Sasha Worthington, who said her festival quickly became the local indie music scene favorite. “We wanted a festival with a smaller, more polite footprint because we don’t think it makes sense to hit people over the head with a big festival that covers too much ground.”

Bumbershoot organizers say they’ve been bamboozled by the nearly sold-out new music festival’s popularity considering their musical line-up seems so much less exciting.

“This year we have Death Cab for Cutie, Turnstile, Lucy Dycus and Orville Peck,” said Bumbershoot principal organizer Dylan McDally. “Meanwhile, I haven’t even heard of Hard Shell for Hoodie, Wet Shoe and all these other bands Rain Jacket booked. Also, we have dozens of exciting local food and drink options for people to enjoy while Rain Jacket is only selling trail mix, Larabars, and Nuun tablets with an optional Nalgene.”

At press time, many older locals admitted they were embarrassed to only recognize two outdoor gear references in the entire Rain Jacket lineup.
