As progressive underdog Katie Wilson’s primary election lead against incumbent Bruce Harrell soared past eight points with more than 50% of the vote Friday, today she assured him that she’s only interested in winning the Seattle Mayor’s Office, not parking spot.
“I genuinely prefer walking and taking public transit everywhere I need to go to in this city, so I just want Bruce to know he’s more than welcome to keep the mayor’s parking spot—I know how much he hates it when people take ‘his’ parking spot,” said Wilson. “Honestly, he can also keep the private gym he built for himself at City Hall too – I already get plenty of exercise between all the walking and lifting up my daughter.”
Asked why she was being so generous when she didn’t even need to be, Wilson said she doesn’t think everything in life has to be a win-lose situation.
“I want the Seattle Mayor’s Office because I believe there are so many more win-win solutions that benefit everyone in this city than we’ve fully pursued yet,” Wilson said. “And that includes improving public transit so much that people like Harrell can drive their nice cars through less traffic to their special parking spots faster than ever.”
At press time, Harrell said he appreciated the offer but also that Katie never had to worry about any fight over the parking spot because she’s not pregnant.
