Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson continued to be accused of not taking the city’s public safety seriously enough today after people in Denny Triangle said they witnessed a Boeing 747 flying into a set of twin towers this morning.
“I knew she’d let another 9/11 happen,” said Seattle City Councilmember Bob Kettle. “If the cameras by stadiums had been on, we could have seen this coming and been able to save lives by shooting it down over some empty rural area like Renton. Instead, now Denny Way is forever scarred not just by a new blood-red bus lane but by the images of a plane hitting its new twin towers.”
While trying not to be dismissive of public safety concerns and opportunities for improvement, Mayor Wilson assured everyone that the plane is actually part of a new development that voluntarily added it between its two towers.
“The fuselage viewable from Denny Way is not attacking the building—it’s an intentional, artistic installation at the new Aero1200 development opening next year, not a terrorist attack,” said Mayor Wilson. “Also, just minor point: I think what crimes people think are viewable from the cameras by the stadiums is getting a little out of hand. They can’t see things that happen miles away, at least according to an SPD officer who told me he had no luck during the World Cup using them to stalk a woman who lives in Queen Anne.”
Critics have reportedly already pivoted to slamming Mayor Wilson for thinking it was a tasteful idea to pitch, design, and install an actual plane flying in between literal twin towers.
