Today the SoDo Costco officially opened a second gas station on the other end of its parking lot to help out customers who keep emptying their tanks while looking for a parking spot.

“The days of calling up AAA while stranded in the middle of the parking lot are hopefully over,” said SoDo Costco Regional Manager Ross Watts. “By replacing 38 parking spots with this new gas station, we are really tackling the root of the problem with a long-term solution.”

Costco members widely welcomed the overdue news.

“Just like the original gas station on the south end of the parking lot, the one on the north end also looks and feels like waiting for an hour to get through a backed-up border crossing,” said Costco customer Sally Madigan. “Fun fact: The mileage I put on my car looking for a spot at the SoDo Costco is roughly similar to literally driving to the Canadian border. Only one journey gets me the cheapest pickles, pizza and cake money can buy though!”

Asked if they would ever consider parking garages that make finding a spot less of an all-day road trip, Costco said they thought about it but declined after it didn’t look like that had reduced how many people endlessly circle parking lots at U-Village.
