Steve Pool, weather reporter and one of Seattle’s most beloved figures, retired today after 40 years of service. As he left the office, Steve sheepishly admitted that he hadn’t been able to switch off the weather control device that kept Seattle gray and dreary during his tenure, to which the city of Seattle found it impossible to be mad about.
“Yeah, that’s my bad,” Pool said with a kind chuckle and characteristic smile. “It got stuck on ‘grey drizzle’ in the ‘70s and I’ve just been making it work ever since. I’ve had some guys work on it, though, and I’m happy to report that we’ve got a warm front of love and support coming into the convergence zone. Rest assured, even though I’m retiring, we’ve got some sunny days ahead.”
Local residents found it hard to be upset about the charming weather mishap, considering Pool’s cheerful demeanor over the last four decades.
“You know what, I like to complain about the rain, but I just can’t be mad at Steve,“ said longtime Seattle resident Pat Jennings. “I mean, I’ll complain about literally anything. Traffic, my super specific Starbucks order, the shrill way my cat meows. But Steve Pool? I would take ten more years of non-stop rain as long as good ol’ Steve is delivering the news.”
At press time, The Needling didn’t have any other real jokes to make ’cause gosh darn it, it’s Steve Pool.
