As Howard Schultz continues to promote an independent presidential bid, the former Starbucks CEO is already promising to get the nation’s Capitol out of the swamp and into Oklahoma City.

“If there’s one thing I learned while managing a major Seattle-based sports franchise, it’s that handing things off to Oklahoma City is all it takes to bring a team together,” said Schultz, who sold the Seattle SuperSonics basketball team to an Oklahoma investment group in 2006.

“One day you’re stuck in a decade where you’re barely, if ever, making it through the first round of the playoffs and then BAM: three Conference Finals and one NBA Final all within the first six years of moving to the Sooner State!”

Asked if the move might upset the identity of Washington, D.C., a region historically rooted in federal legislative bodies for more than two centuries, Schultz assured reporters that the area will be fine.

“D.C. will always be able to sell merchandise to remind them of what once was,” said Schultz. “And they’ve got The Nationals.”
