Attempting to address the rising cost of groceries, today Franz Bakery announced its new cost-saving “Some of the Things” bagel.

“We’ve listened to the feedback and we’ve developed a new recipe for our traditional Everything Bagels that customers are going to love,” said Franz Head of R&D, Ed Schmearan. “It has some of the things they enjoy about our bagels and we can offer it at only some of the cost. The ‘Some of the Things’ bagel will still include a generous sum of exactly 10 poppy and/or sesame seeds. Onion and salt flakes sold separately.”

Consumer Reports notes that this is part of a growing trend nationwide to promote flagging sales in an inflationary environment.

“Brands are looking to attract budget-conscious shoppers,” CR researcher Stephanie Sizemore tells us. “For example, Levi’s is rolling out a line of ‘Oops! All Rips’ jeans that are going to be very popular with the fashion-forward set and Instagram is launching a filter that makes your pictures worth only 500 words. In Seattle, you’ve also got Chuck’s Hop Shop now offering ‘Just the Head’ beers.”

The Franz “Some of the Things” bagel will be in stores this spring in partnership with Tillamook Cream Cheese Spray.
