Lucky ferry passengers, who were almost too distracted by a pod of orcas breaching in Elliott Bay to notice, caught a rare glimpse today of a single cargo ship entering the Port of Seattle.
“I can’t believe it! I’ve been wanting to see any sign of normal economic activity and international trade since the Port of Seattle emptied weeks ago due to tariffs and finally I’m seeing it with my own eyes!” said one passenger in a video circulating on social media today of a gigantic rusted container ship gliding into Seattle. “Almost missed it because these dumb, jumping orcas were in the way. Aren’t they supposed to stay away from boats?”
Avid cargo ship watchers identified it as an endangered Hanjin container ship.
“It’s definitely special—these ships are almost practically extinct,” said Kristin Bagley, who coordinates a popular ship-watching group on WhatsApp. “Omg, no way is that? No way! Confirmed: It’s sailing with a tiny tug boat—awww!”
At press time, several attention-starved orcas said they wondered if this is how it feels to be just a sea lion.
