A coalition of Republican lawmakers came together today to warn that any exceptions in state abortion bans would lead to dangerous shortages of child labor in the coming years.

“Every unborn child deserves to have a chance at future employment, whether that’s using those nimble little fingers to assemble cell phones or picking all the crops left on the vine after mass deportations,” said Labor Department Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer. “I think it’s despicable that the Democrats want to rob the world of the sound of children’s laughter echoing through a coal mine.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis explained that strict abortion laws would be vital to the success of his state’s proposed “Employment of Minors” bill.

“For too long America has been led astray by woke labor laws that restrict the freedom of children to toil in factories—what this nation needs now is to return to its roots and embrace family, faith, and forced child labor,” said DeSantis. “Any attempt to allow abortion ban exceptions would dry up the labor pool we’ll need to take on China’s unfair tariffs. Besides, we’re doing these kids a favor by preventing DEI indoctrination in public schools. They’ll receive all the math education they’ll ever need when they file their taxes.”

The Trump administration later announced plans to replace OSHA with the new Department of RSDI, or “Rub Some Dirt on It.”
