As more details emerge for a future Ballard Light Rail connection, new parents Jim and Claire Thompson are reportedly ecstatic that the light rail will allow them to visit their newborn kid by the time they’ve enrolled at the University of Washington.
“Can you believe it? In just two short decades we’ll be riding the light rail to visit our baby daughter at the University of Washington!” exclaimed Thompson, beaming at a framed mock up of the future Ballard station. “Ideally we’d love to visit during her Freshman year, but we’re being realistic and hoping to take the inaugural ride down in time for graduation.”
But even as the preliminary planning was underway, Sound Transit officials were urging Ballard residents and parents of future UW students to keep their expectations in check.
“Hold your escalators, we’re still in the ‘pre-planning preparation exploratory investigation discovery review’ phase of the Ballard light rail extension, so we want to encourage parents of the 2046 UW graduating class to make alternative travel plans just in case there are further delays,” said Sound Transit spokesperson Graham Barton. “Maybe even consider holding them back a year before Kindergarten, we’d hate for anyone to miss a special moment because city leaders decide we need to move the transit hub directly underneath the King County Jail.”
Meanwhile West Seattle residents were holding out hope that their light rail connection would be completed before the West Seattle Bridge collapses again.
