Longtime Seattleite Todd Miller had his coworkers in stitches this week joking about how everyone gets the streets Pike and Pine confused, artfully passing off a classic bit from the Seattle sketch comedy show Almost Live! as his own original idea.
“Todd is so funny!” said Kris Arnold who moved to Seattle from Arizona last year. “I was complaining about slugs in my garden and then before I knew it, he had made up this whole story about a kid having a pet slug and going on adventures together. He’s hilarious! I don’t know how he thinks of this stuff! He also has all these goofy names for the characters in his jokes like ‘Guppy’ and ‘Keister’!”
In addition to passing off jokes to his coworkers, Miller has also had similar success on dates by garnering sympathy with stories about his ex, Jill, who he describes as the “Worst Girlfriend in the World.” Miller has, however, found a few jokes from the 1984-1999 show to be a bit outdated.
“Yeah, I don’t always get Todd’s humor,” said coworker Kyle Brooks. “I live in Ballard, and he keeps trying to joke with me about all the old people there, and like, a school for bad Ballard drivers or something, but I’m like ‘huh?’ I’ve been here since 2015 and all the bad drivers here are young Tesla drivers bumping Joe Rogan.”
Unfortunately for Miller, next week his workplace will be featured in a KING5 News puff piece, and he will make the fateful mistake of trying to tell the Sluggy story to Chris Cashman.
At press time, most of Miller’s pitches to The Needling had been rejected except for one really great one about a local speed-walking super-hero.
