Temperatures may be dipping and more rain be dripping, but none of that has to stop you from taking your time to enjoy a fun and cozy weekend out camping in the left lane. Here are five essentials to take out on your autumn weekend left-lane camping adventures:
- Warm liquids: Judging from the countless drivers angrily swerving around you and flipping you off as you camp in the “fast lane” at 55 mph, it’s pretty cold out there. Melt the icy vibes away with hot cocoa, chai or a PSL as you carefully drive another 5 mph slower just to carefully take a sip out of your thermos.
- Carpool camping reservations: Make sure you’ve got some extra people in your car ahead of time so you can have the coveted carpool lane all to yourself as you peacefully camp at a minimum of 10 mph slower than the speed limit.
- Ear plugs: Your fellow campers may be subtly hinting at how everyone is passing you and maybe it would be a good time to get over toward the right. Nonsense. Stuff those ear plugs in and disappear into a world of your own as you single-handedly decommission an entire freeway lane for miles behind you, ensuring you have it all to yourself. Peaceful!
- Balaclava: Retaining your body heat is everything this time of year, as is hiding your identity from passing drivers trying to add you to their personal shit list. This snuggly head sweater that covers everything but your eyes and mouth will do the trick as you force everyone to use the slow lane as a passing lane in sweet anonymity.
- Waterproof Jacket: Weather conditions this time of year are always unpredictable as are the amount of tears your passengers and nearby drivers cry as you continue coasting in the left lane acting like no one’s ever told you that the left lane is for passing, not camping. GORE-TEX shells are especially good at repelling reality and keeping it from seeping in.
Happy left-lane loitering this fall weekend, campers!
