An Amazon.com Prime Day website glitch today accidentally revealed a list of deals on local Seattle politicians who can apparently be bought at a discount this year.

“We deeply apologize for the confusion – Prime Day deals on local candidates like Bruce Harrell and Sara Nelson were only intended to be viewable by Amazon staff using ‘individual’ contributions to get around Seattle’s new ban on direct corporate campaign contributions,” said Amazon spokesperson Megan Evans. “Amazon can’t directly blow $1.5 million on council races like it did in 2019. So we thought it’d be fun for our staff to literally buy the candidates themselves on Prime Day. But when we saw some random dipshit customers trying to buy Goodspaceguy, we knew something was very wrong.”

Although the glitch was fixed and covered up quickly, customers were able to note candidates like Sara Nelson, running for the Seattle City Council’s at-large Position 9 seat, were the most popular item bought among Amazon staff.

“Guilty as charged!” said John Schoettler, VP of Amazon’s global real estate portfolio. “I mean what a deal! Amazon dropped at least $350k on Jenny Durkan alone so maxing out on my personal contribution of only $550 to Sara’s campaign was mine and Amazon’s pleasure. Several other colleagues like Jared Axelrod, Amazon’s Senior Manager of Public Policy, a few Amazon corporate and tax counsels made ‘personal’ contributions to her too.”

As for what caused the glitch, Amazon assured reporters “the intern did it” and that the intern was being promptly strapped to the outside of Bezos’ next Blue Origin rocket.
