Seattle Center – In his second tourist season as a Space Needle elevator operator, Utah native Caiden Alger reports his new joke absolutely killed with the crowd of tourists and locals hoping to see Seattle from above.

As a rookie operator last year, Caiden was forced to use the standard “Going up?” each and every ride to the top of the iconic landmark, while veteran colleagues killed with “I love this job — I get a raise every five minutes.”

But with an offseason to perfect new material, Caiden claims to be making each and every one of the thousands of riders double over in laughter daily.

“I asked him about his job and he said it has its ups and downs,” said Gary Hammet, a retired school teacher from Fremont, California. “Genius. It’s genius stuff.”

Alger says he already has notebooks full of material for his third season at the Space Needle but, like any comedic visionary, isn’t giving away his best punchlines.

“You’ll have to come back next year to hear the new stuff,” he said before closing the elevator door.
