Today University of Washington researchers announced they have discovered the world’s dumbest person in the West Seattle Blog comments section.
“This is an historic achievement,” said Dr. Donna Fandango of the UW Neurosciences Institute, who also lives in West Seattle’s North Admiral neighborhood and uses the West Seattle Blog when she wants to know if the loud noise she just heard is a gunshot. “I was just browsing the Blog to check on weekend road closures over the West Seattle Bridge when I accidentally scrolled too far down—that’s when I found them: the world’s dumbest person.”
At first she wasn’t certain as the person did somehow manage to get on a computer, access the Blog’s website, make an account on the site, and post a message more-or-less related to the article’s topic, but a deep dive into that user’s comment history confirmed it. Dr. Fandango’s research cites hundreds of posts from the user.
“In October of 2021, they claimed an R.V. encampment on Harbor Avenue was spreading vampirism and that the only remedy was to put them all on a gondola to the Space Needle,” Dr. Fandango’s research paper states. “Then, in the summer of 2023, they found a way of bringing every conversation—no matter how tangential—to their pet theory that pickleball is what happens when table tennis is exposed to 5G radiation and is, therefore, Satanic.”
When asked to choose the most egregious example from the study, Dr. Fandango research says “[the commenter] has a recurring belief that SPD was defunded and that SPOG President Mike Solan is a valuable member of our community.”
Asked how the West Seattle Blog commenter measured up against the average NextDoor user, Dr. Fandango admitted she had never used the site until we showed it to her in the interview and her head immediately exploded.
