In a completely deliberate show of laser and firework show art innovation, this year New Year’s at the Needle put on a Northern Lights-inspired show so realistically Arctic the Space Needle was nowhere in sight.
“Unlike other years where we’ve focused more on big explosions and flying drones displaying things you can see in detail, this New Year’s show is all about just a bunch of random blobs of color moving and merging together like Northern Lights, and that’s it,” said Space Needle spokesperson Sarah Winters. “To achieve this beautiiful chiarascurro effect in the sky, we knew we’d need to create the foggiest, cloudiest night Seattle has maybe ever seen.”
How did they pull it off?
“We partnered with both people trying to get high enough tonight to forget the entire last five years and people getting steamy while binge-watching Heated Rivalry to completely hot box the Needle,” Winter said. “Just like we hoped, we had enough thick, low-lying fog to make it so people could only see colored clouds in the sky with no Space Needle visible to ruin the view.”
At press time, the show aired live on local news stations was such a hit people all across the city were inspired to use expensive illegal fireworks to put on their own Northern Lights show.
