Seeing the need to step up its mental health support for its loyal indie music radio listener community during such stressful political times, today one KEXP DJ whispered ‘You’re not alone’ while standing right behind you.
“There is a whole community out here that cares about you,” dedicated DJ Skye Waters whispered into the nape of your neck out of nowhere while you were trying to take a walk alone through Discovery Park. “Don’t be afraid to reach out for support if you need it. I’m literally right here for you always—watching, waiting, playing something obscure that’s about to turn your whole life around but in a good way.”
KEXP’s You Are Not Alone program days grew out of a need to help reach out and touch people at vulnerable moments of their lives through the power of music.
“Music heals,” said veteran KEXP DJ John Richards while running behind listener Wade Rogers on his evening jog around Green Lake. “And if it doesn’t, we’ll find you and heal you another way. If this run doesn’t blow off enough steam, Wade, just let me know if you still need someone to talk to about resources or just shoot the shit for a bit. If not, great! You can always find us at the KEXP Gathering Space where the music matters and you do too! Hot tip: So does running form, bud.”
At press time, most listeners just wanted to know how much they needed to donate for the KEXP DJs to finally leave them alone.
