King County Metro bus riders were left speechless today after witnessing a man, who some are calling a literal monster, simply exit at his stop without even kissing the driver goodbye.
“The ingrate didn’t even blow a little kiss from the backdoor—just hopped right off the bus like he didn’t even care if he ever saw the driver again,” said bus rider Ryan Jacobs, shaking his head. “I would never leave my bus driver feeling unloved, unwanted and unacknowledged like that. You know how lucky we are to have these amazing, kind and patient operators who are the backbone of our public transit system and often my mental health for the day? Personally, I think when you’re leaving and kissing them goodbye, slipping in a little tongue never hurts.”
Bus operator Jeff Wheely said no one needs to make a big fuss about it because he gets that’s just how some avoidant bus riders are—it doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t love public transit and the people who keep it going.
“Would it be nice to get a little peck on the cheek on their way out? Sure. I mean, you never know when you’re gonna see someone for the last time—reroutes, reduced service, and line cancellations happen all the time,” said Wheely, with a little lump in his throat. “It could be worse though—he could be that guy who basically French-kisses me every day on his way out. It’s a bit much.”
At press time, King County Metro released a statement reminding riders that at least thanking your bus driver as you exit is a nice thing to do just so they know you’re not mad at them or something.
