In an unforgettable show of solidarity, today Chihuly Garden and Glass ended its Women’s History Month festivities with a bang by literally shattering its own glass ceiling.

“When we told you we’d be blowing the roof off of this Women’s History Month Gala in the Glasshouse, we weren’t kidding,” said Chihuly Foundation President Charles Wright. “Because when we say we support women breaking glass ceilings, it’s not just a performative thing we’re saying we’re doing – it’s a thing we’re really doing. Or, rather, our intern Haley will be doing after our forward-thinking all-male board decided she would. Go on, Haley … don’t act like the protective gloves and glasses we got you aren’t enough to do this right. That college credit and #Brave post isn’t gonna earn itself, honey.”

Gala guests watching from the garden erupted into applause as the museum’s glass ceiling exploded into beautiful skyborne fireworks of glass shards representing barriers women can break.

“You know, some might say a more meaningful move would have been showcasing the artwork of more than a single man being worshipped here every day of the year—especially since only 13% of the works featured in major U.S. art museums today are by women,” said Nancy Higley, top donor at the fundraiser for a single man’s artistic legacy. “But, honestly, I really prefer flashy, expensive and hollow gestures like this that make rich, white untouchable people like me feel like we really did something here when we absolutely did not.”

At press time, a reportedly angry Dale Chihuly not pleased with the smashing of one of his largest artworks was seen leaving the event wearing two eye patches.
