Following the unexpected and early resignation of Sound Transit CEO Julie Timm on Tuesday, this morning the Sound Transit Board announced the projected date for appointing her replacement is 2045.
“It’ll take us between six months and one year to get the job description written for the ad with some language other than just ‘scapegoat,’” said Sound Transit Board Chair and King County Executive Dow Constantine. “There’s gonna be a lot of short-sighted Board decisions they need to take the fall for before they even get started, including cost overruns, delays in selecting station locations for future light rail expansions, and crowding issues as rider demand has already surpassed capacity. Then we’ll hire a contractor who’s my friend’s cousin to spell-check it for about $50 million.”
According to the 18-member Board’s timeline, it’ll take another two years to post the ad, followed by a five-year process of panel interviews with current, former and future board members. There will then be a five-year pause for everyone to take a well-deserved break and get some snacks.
“You have to understand that appointing a CEO by 2045 is Sound Transit’s equivalent of premature ejaculation,” said Sound Transit Board Member Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. “The original end-date for choosing a new CEO was 2060.”
The Board added it remains committed to completing the region’s mass transit system just before all of Seattle is covered with sea water from glacial melt.
