Veteran King County Metro driver Bernard Davis is in hot water with no less than five Route 48 riders for continually using the accessibility ramp at each of his stops — clearly, they say — just to piss people off.
“I work at an architecture firm downtown and every day I arrive at work later,” said bus rider Elaine Boston. “Last month, I didn’t make it to a client meeting in time because of the bus ride. I lost the client. Then my husband. Then my breasts: Full mastectomy. And it’s all because of this damn bus driver.”
Bus rider Daniel Iantico says the bus driver’s antics have been hard on him as well.
“All that beep beep beeping and the lowering and raising of that lift. For what?!” shouted Iantico. “The more we groan on the bus about it the more the driver does it! He’s got a vendetta against the very people he is supposed to be serving: Us.”
When asked about the alleged vendetta, Davis laughed.
“You mean my vendetta against lack of accessibility?” Davis asked. “You’re right, I won’t rest a day on the job until every disabled person–from seniors struggling with mobility to Millennials blinded by the glow of a social media newsfeed–gets a leg up on my bus.”
