What you’ll learn:

  • How to brainstorm real fake news (satire) headlines and concepts to remember
  • How to write funny, punchy real fake news (satire) articles
  • How to pitch ideas and pieces for publication in a variety of satirical news outlets.
  • How to collaborate and open up with others to sharpen up creative ideas.
  • How the process of brainstorming great headlines, writing them up, and editing can be applied to improving writing and creative processes in many other arenas outside of the real fake newsroom including copywriting, speechwriting, advocacy, social media, journalism, and many others.  

What the 3-week workshop includes*:

  • Collaborative and solo brainstorming and writing exercises led by The Needling Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Lex Vaughn, who is also an actual Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who’s worked previously at The Seattle Times, Los Angeles Times, and Entrepreneur magazine.
  • Educational materials including outlines and guides for how to brainstorm headlines, write satirical articles and pitch publications
  • Accountability and coaching to create a pitch-ready story in 3 weeks
  • Editor feedback and coaching on one satirical article: Workshop participants will have one month after the last workshop night to send in a finished piece for final editing and feedback
  • Kicking creative and writing ruts to the curb in the most fun way possible
  • Hanging out with people who love comedy and creativity as much as you do
  • Fully Non-accredited Real Fake Newsroom Workshop Graduation Certificate (that you can actually add on LinkedIn if desired!)
