Seattle Aquarium launched its Pride Month celebration a day early today on World Otter Day with the opening of its new furry gay otter exhibit.
“As the first major city with a gay otter display, we put a lot of thought into replicating their natural environmental needs before we even broke ground on this enclosure. We paid particular attention to otters’ need for space to gyrate their hips to Kylie Minogue, nuzzle, and splash around, all with a state-of-the-art filter to remove shedding otter hair from the water,” said marine biologist Stacy Peters. “Otters will be given a steady supply of the same food they enjoy in the wild such as vodka sodas and endless appetizers.”
So far spectators say they’re loving the exhibit and even saying hi to some longtime friends they didn’t know were also otters.
“I couldn’t wait to see a new otter exhibit and then it got that much better when I saw my friend Mikey frolicking in there with his otter friends floating around holding hands, my heart just exploded,” said aquarium visitor Tina Fleury. “I didn’t know he was also an otter, but he’s the cutest one I’ve ever seen in that flamingo print speedo, especially when he’s balancing other otters on his cute, furry belly.”
In addition to the exhibit, Seattle Aquarium also plans to create a gay otter release program for communities with endangered populations, like Burien, where gay bears outnumber gay otters 6 to 1.
