After 22 years of living with the name Michael Penix Jr., the Husky star quarterback reported with delight at a pre-game press conference that he hasn’t heard that one before.
“Did you just come up with that? That’s so clever!” said Penix still marveling that after years of being in the public eye he had somehow never heard that particular play on words before. “No one has ever pointed out that my last name sounds like another word. And that word is a body part?! I just learned something new today.”
Not to be outdone, rival Washington State football fans say they’ve got something even wittier up their sleeve for next month.
“I’ve spent all semester coming up with the perfect sign to taunt Michael Penix with,” said Washington State sophomore Jared Addams. “I can’t give it away before the Apple Cup, but it’s a hilarious play on his last name and let’s just say he’s definitely not gonna see this verbal sack coming.”
Despite the annual anticipation around the rivalry game against the Cougars, Penix says he is most excited about the November 4th game against the Oregon State Beavers.
“It’s a big game, and I’ll be up for it.”
The clever wordsmith struck gold again at the end of the press conference as Penix introduced his girlfriend Alexa, who had also definitely not heard that one even once.
