In the spirit of promoting up-and-coming musicians, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced today that this year it would be recognizing a cute little side project from former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl.
“They’re apparently called The Food Fighters – isn’t that adorable?” said Hall of Fame co-chair Robert Castle. “I heard one of their songs called ‘Everlong’ and it was actually pretty catchy! I was told a few radio stations have been playing it too for a little while now, which has to be really exciting for those guys.”
Castle said the group has also earned 12 participation trophies from the Grammys, including four for playing Best Rock Album.
“It’s so difficult for artists to get back in the saddle after the kind of tragic circumstances that led to the end of Nirvana, especially under the shadow of the iconic work they’ve already done,” Castle said. “So will this group ever have the juice to sell more than 12 million albums, go on nine concert tours, and headline Lollapalooza anytime soon? Especially with Grohl bravely trying out the guitar instead? Who’s to say? But at least we can give them this little nudge of encouragement.”
Legendary 10-year-old drummer Nandi Bushell said she’s rooting for Grohl’s little side project too all the way from the UK.
“I mean, try hard as he may, he’ll never be as good as me, but I’m happy to mentor him and his bandmates whenever they need me.”
