One local woman says she’s finally found a way to allay her anxieties about the gradual end of mask requirements by wearing a colorful assortment of 2.5-pound weighted gravity masks.
“I know it sounds weird, but trust me: Something about them is so simultaneously suffocating yet comforting,” said Raquel Worley of Fremont who crafted the mask she’s now selling on Etsy and farmer’s markets on the weekend. “I know the CDC says we don’t need to wear masks outside or inside around vaccinated people anymore, but I still felt really anxious about being in maskless environments. Personally, I find it very soothing to wear something that not only acts as a mask, but as something that feels like someone is giving you a warm, smothering hug with two velour-sweatpant-covered buttcheeks.”
Worley’s friends say they’re wearing the weighted gravity masks now too.
“I love it because I thought now that we’re out of quarantine and hygge I no longer should be hiding underneath my 25-pound weighted gravity blankets,” said Amy Anderson. “With Raquel’s weighted gravity masks, I can feel like I’m nestled in a sweaty little cocoon no matter where I go.”
Although Worley is only selling the masks in 2.5-pound and 5 pound weights, she said she’s soon coming out with a 25-pound weight that reminds you of how you were always kind of an introverted hermit anyway and mostly staying safe at home is always another option.
