This year’s Seafair festival has been officially cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s not all good news: The Seafair foundation does not currently have plans to cancel Seafair 2021, Seafair 2022, or Seafair 2023.

“Don’t get your hopes up – we’re just taking one year off,” Seafair organizers announced in a skywritten statement to the press.

Seafair CEO Clarence Fair Jr. emphasized residents should not get used to this August’s peaceful summer atmosphere.

“Make no mistake: After this haitus, Seafair will live on to provide traffic and ear-splitting noise to Seattle for years to come,” said Fair. “The annual $37 million the Blue Angels receive from the Department of Defense budget has to go somewhere, and Lord knows it’s not going into public education, public health or unemployment assistance.”

Events also fortunately postponed for at least this year include the Lake Washington Tank Parade, the 12th Annual Airhorn Competition, and Scare-a-Dog Day. Ticketholders can still request refunds, but are encouraged to continue littering and blocking access to the lakefront until Seafair and other widely undesired festivals return.
