Though Phoenix Jones’ MIA status over the last month has prompted widespread rumors of his permanent retirement, Batman movie director Christopher Nolan surprised Emerald City Comic Con audiences tonight when he announced they won’t have to wait forever to see the city’s leading superhero in action again.

Cast members already signed to the project titled “Phoenix Jones Lives” include Terry Crews as Phoenix Jones and Rainn Wilson of Dwight Schrute fame to play his longtime nemesis, Rex Velvet.

“For eight long years, we’ve only really seen the Phoenix Jones saga through the eyes of one black man,” said Nolan at the Washington State Convention Center. “It’s well past time for a fresh take directed and written by a white guy.”

Adding action movie cred to the credits is Executive Producer Quentin Tarantino.

Nolan didn’t let on about the upcoming movie’s plot lines, but did say audiences can look forward to a new female superhero character of Japanese descent that will be played by, if negotiations pull through, Scarlett Johansson.
