It was a harrowing day for Broadview native Blaire Colman, 26, after a misunderstood direction from her phone somehow fucking led her to the small town of Duvall.
While on her way to a new sushi fusion restaurant in Kirkland, Colman took a wrong turn and found herself back on State Route 522 in an area infamously known as the Bothell Triangle.
“I didn’t know what to do so I just kept driving,” said Colman.
Confusion turned into fear as she crossed the Snoqualmie River Valley into downtown Duvall and realized the battery on her phone was dead.
With no choice but to pull over and ask for help, she entered the Duvall Tavern and asked a bartender for directions.
“He got very aggressive when I pronounced it Do-VALL. He told me, ‘It’s pronounced DOO-vall,’” said Colman. “I was afraid for my life, so I ran.”
Salvation came when Ms. Colman found the only independent coffee shop in town and felt safe enough to charge her phone. Once recharged, she asked Google for directions home, but not before tweeting about that one road the citizens called “downtown,” and checking into Facebook to mark herself safe.
“When she didn’t text after an hour, I feared the worst,” said a relieved Claire Colman, 56, of her daughter’s update. “I’ll never let her drive that far out by herself again! At least not until she’s thirty.”
Safe at home after the long ordeal, Blaire nodded in agreement while sipping her non-fat soy chai latte. She then added a parting thought about the experience she said will always stick with her.
“There were so many cows and Microsoft employees. I always wondered where they all came from. And now I know. Now I fucking know.”
