California native Rhea Larkin made waves today as she took to social media to denounce a perfectly fine Mexican restaurant in Ballard.
“These have to be the worst tacos I’ve ever had,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “I can’t believe this is what you guys call Mexican food! You haven’t lived until you’ve had a real, authentic Mission District burrito in The Bay.”
The Ballard restaurant has been described by locals as inoffensive and, honestly, not half bad. A staple of Ballard for over a decade, it’s known for serving plenty of traditional Mexican favorites which are at least better than microwaving a frozen meal. So when Larkin’s friends saw her Facebook post, they were shocked.
“I can’t believe that all this time, I was eating literal garbage,” said Carla Santos, a friend of Larkin’s. “Thankfully, I have Rhea to show me the light and tell me to not enjoy a perfectly adequate taco from this place.”
Many of Santos’ friends are following suit. A number of them have pledged to abstain from ever having Mexican food until they visit California.
But even after receiving a whopping eight likes on her post, Larkin says she’s just getting started.
“On my way to work today, I noticed at least four other Mexican joints that I haven’t been to,” she said in an interview. “It’s my job to let people here know that none of them are ever going to have carnitas as good as my home state’s. What can I say? With great knowledge comes great responsibility.”
