Following a terse encounter with President Donald Trump at a press conference, the West Seattle Blog has been banned from the White House Press Pool.
Known for its hard-hitting coverage of local little-league teams and seasonal street fairs, the West Seattle institution was granted a one-time pass to the White House as part of a journalism outreach program in Washington, D.C.
During its first conference, West Seattle Blog staff were reportedly given the opportunity to ask President Trump one question and, in keeping with their reputation for hard-edged journalism, inquired about his favorite sandwich.
When the president excitedly announced “a hot dog!,” West Seattle Blog editor Tracy Record resolutely countered with “a hot dog isn’t a sandwich, Mr. President.”
After refusing to rescind the press room microphone until the President admitted what a sandwich is and what it is not, the Secret Service intervened, dragging Record from the press room.
The President then toppled his podium and began shouting at Record, declaring hot dogs to be “the best sandwich” before aides rushed to his side.
“I’ve covered milt-soaked salmon spawning seasons, blood-soaked art walks, and rain soaked rain walks,” said Record following the press room brouhaha. “But in all my years, I’ve never seen an esteemed local blogger treated this poorly before.”
This is a developing story.
