Guest Column by Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson

Today was a big win for bringing civility back to Seattle City Hall after we learned that an entire year of refusing to cooperate or support a single thing our colleague Tammy Morales worked her ass off to build community consensus on has so broken her stupid bleeding-heart spirit she’s resigned just a year after her re-election.

I want to thank all of my colleagues for killing Tammy’s widely supported Connected Communities affordable housing bill she’d worked on for years just because it was hers. The most mature and civil thing to do was to not give her that win, no matter how many people stood to benefit from it because civility—as we all know—is all about zero-sum games.

I especially want to thank Cathy Moore for her long, public tirades against Tammy to really rub in how powerless she was as the only progressive left on the Council. Also to remind us that you still think you’re in a court room—it’s so cute, when you’re not even the one with the gavel anymore! Just know that whenever you want the cops sicced on a public commenter who’s going on too long about our city not doing enough to help homeless refugees, I got you, gurl.

Special thanks goes out to Dan Strauss for completely selling his soul this last year. We already knew you were spineless but, wow! After the way you watched your longtime colleague suffer this last year and do zilch about it, now we know you’re heartless too. We totally owned that lib! Did you see her crying at the budget meeting? You almost cared, didn’t you, you little bi*ch? I’m sure you hurt her the most—great work. Now go remind Rob Saka again we’re gonna get him his little $3 million left turn back that fucks up a RapidRide route as soon as possible before he asks with that crazy look in his eyes for a $5 million dedicated parking space.

Mostly—honestly—I want to thank myself for sabotaging public comment and ethics codes all year so much Tammy couldn’t stand to watch me continue to do it right in front of her anymore. We’ll miss her and look forward to being completely civil with our new colleague, Alexis Mercedes Rinck.
