After years of traveling as the eponymous host of Rick Steves’ Europe, the erudite guide who once encouraged audiences to venture off the beaten path announced today his show will now focus on his indefinite staycation where he and his company are based, Edmonds.
With Rick Steves’ Edmonds cameras in tow, he confessed to a real “there’s no place like home” moment a few weeks ago while watching Dark Side of the Rainbow with some edibles.
“Dude, everything we need is right here: Wind-chimes, coffee, even a farmer’s market stand that sells CBD-infused eyebrow conditioner,” said Steves, unshaven and shuffling through Downtown Edmonds in shower sandals before slumping on a bench. “This week we’re going to Red Twig Café where they have a twofer on cran-bran scones. Damn, those are good.”
Once an adventurer who admonished travelers to invest in comfortable pick-pocket-proof khakis and layered all-weather outerwear, Steves said he doesn’t see himself leaving the Edmonds city limits any time soon.
“I mean, maybe if we want to get adventurous again we could take the ferry to … nah, nah, nah, you know what? Fuck Kingston,” Steves said while setting down his open-carry beer to take a hit of a bong held by an assistant. “This is what they call smoking an Edmonds Bowl. Woo!”
So far, he says he has no regrets about his team’s transition to focusing on Edmonds full time.
“Yes, you can certainly still head to the bright yellow jewel of Izamal in the Yucatan peninsula where ancient Mayan and Mexican cultures intertwine, sip a cool hibiscus tea in the plaza, relax and refresh while time slows down. Or, you could just not.”
