Moments after the Seattle City Council race was certified today, a collective groan could be heard throughout the Emerald City.

“When I voted for Joy Hollingsworth, I was super excited about what she planned to do for the neighborhood, but now it is clear nothing changed,” Capitol Hill resident Justin Freeway told reporters. “My rent is still too high, the unhoused are still sleeping outside, and there still isn’t a dog park on the hill. She could have at least given us all a joint by now.”

The mood in West Seattle was just as salty, as residents woke up to a new councilmember, tech lawyer Rob Saka.

“Why hasn’t the light rail to West Seattle opened yet? The election is over. I know they don’t get sworn in until January, but I just don’t understand why this stuff is so hard,” longtime West Seattle resident Laurie Jingles complained. “I voted for Saka because I believed he would bring change, but unfortunately everything is exactly the same as it was yesterday.”

Asked who they all wanted elected instead, the Emerald City said just “Green Jacket Lady.”
