After five years of living in Kirkland, Eastside man Todd Wesley still giggles each time he asks his wife to “make me a turkey Sammamish.”

“There’s just something about the names around here that are ripe for jokes,” Todd, a transplant to the area, told The Needling. “Tokeland. Humptulips. Yelm. All of them are hiiiii-larious. But man, that day I asked Debra to make me a Sammamish—that was peak.”

Debra said she unfortunately laughed when he told it the first time, which only seemed to encourage him.

“It’s something between a running gag and white noise to me now,” said Debra while not making him anything. “It may be too late to stop that joke now, but yesterday I absolutely put a stop to him asking if he can put his Lynnwood in my Bothell.”

This week’s national news was an emotional rollercoaster for Todd who got very excited about Cumtown, Alaska, only to be disappointed that it’s a fictional place name with no real history, culture or people to make fun of.
