The latest addition to the Ballard Brewery District, Playground Brewing Company, says that it’s taking the family-friendly brewery model to the next level by only allowing dogs and kids into their tasting room and beer garden.
“Sure, other breweries allow dogs and kids in addition to brewery-hopping Millennials and actual grown adults,” said owner Matt Walters, sipping a beer that no other adult has been allowed to try. “But you always have these annoying adults moaning ‘Hey, shouldn’t your dog be on a leash and not sniffing my balls’ and ‘Hey, don’t you think your kids would prefer watching a movie somewhere else over waiting for you to stop drinking.’ So, we thought, why have any adults in here ruining the family-friendly vibe at all?”
Playground Brewing’s tasting room is notably packed with apples, pretzels, and dog treats, while months-old beer rots in fermentation vessels unconsumed.
“The problem with local breweries is that there are too many adults, so my dog has to stay on his leash, and my baby gets sub-par service from the staff,” said Playground Brewing regular Anastasia Bell. “I’ll gladly stay outside if it means giving my dog and child the welcoming Seattle brewery experience they deserve.”
At the time of publication, a dump truck full of Bully Sticks was reportedly seen backing into the brewery’s loading dock while boxes of expired hops were being dumped into the compost bin.
