An innocent distraction had unexpected consequences this week when a spry 31-year-old Meghan Powers aged into vaccine eligibility while scrolling down a Kailyn’s Kitchyn blog page for an easy cinnamon rolls recipe.

“All I wanted was the most basic cinnamon roll recipe, but it turned out that required spending half my life learning about 14 types of cinnamon, Kailyn’s grandparents, and something about her first time savoring a Disneyland churro in eighth grade,” said Powers. “Fortunately, I not only finally reached the promised land of the actual recipe ingredients and directions at the bottom of the blog page 35 years later but also my long-awaited Covid vaccine eligibility.”

While Powers’ fading memory remains unsure about all the details of visit to the blog, Kailyn’s Kitchyn blog was hesitant to take responsibility for Powers’ time embedded in the post or for having the power to give people vaccine eligibility.

“This reminds me of an old mare that my grandparents had on their farm,” Kailyn explained from her home in New York. “She’d stay in the pasture in all kinds of weather. During those cold, upstate winters, we would sit at my grandma’s kitchen window and watch that mare, stubborn as could be, while we helped my grandma make her famous oatmeal cookies. I always think of those winters when – oh, sorry. What was your question?”

When asked if she would revisit the blog for future recipes, Powers was unsure.

“I used to bake all the time, but my arthritis flares up in the winter,” Powers said. “Maybe if I start looking for an easy oatmeal cookie recipe there will be a cure for that once I’ve found it too.”
