August primary voters rushing to turn in their ballots at a Wallingford drop box at the last minute were aided tonight by local Good Samaritan Chester Hines, who let them all know he got his ballot in weeks ago.
“Wow, right down to the wire, huh? Not me. Yeah, I popped that baby in almost as soon as I got it,” said a relaxed Hines as he looked down from his perch upon the ballot box. “I said to myself, why not just get this over with now and not sweat it out at the last minute like you guys are right now, you know? I highly recommend it.”
Last-minute voter Sarah Upton said Hines’ presence at the ballot box made a big difference to her today.
“Being reminded I could have done this differently was a huge help, especially since I don’t have a time-traveling device,” said Upton, wiping sweat from her face after running to meet the 8 p.m. deadline. “I just hope he’s there this fall on November 2 to do the same.”
Upon further reflection, Upton said she would rather just mark Oct. 16 on her calendar and turn in her November election ballot soon enough to avoid seeing Hines’ smug face again.
