Monday’s three-alarm fire on Ballard’s Market Street destroyed five businesses including more than 45-year-old retailer Kitchen N Things, but–according to locals—not necessarily all of its reportedly “still good” Le Creuset cookware.

“My heart goes out to all of the poor small business owners who lost everything—except for those premium French cast-iron darlings, of course,” said longtime Ballard resident Patty Heathers as she peered around fire and insurance investigators to see if the prized cookware was visible. “If anything, I’m sure they’ve merely been baptized by fire into an even purer state of culinary being.”

Stay-at-home mom Karen Hodges agreed as her eyes caught a pop of color amidst the store’s charred remains.

“Their boldly-hued porcelain enamel beckons to me like a siren song,” said Hodges. “Oh, you coquettish cocottes and coquelles, one day you will be mine! Oh, yes: You will be mine.”

Sensing a palpable hysteria building outside the incinerated building, firefighters reminded residents to maintain perimeter and send questions regarding the cookware to the business owner.

Asked for comment, Kitchen N Things owner said when firefighters give her clearance to reclaim any surviving merchandise, she may knock the price of Le Creuset French ovens, casserole dishes and tagines all the way down to $425.95.
