Just weeks after the billionaire announced he was stepping back from his campaign for an independent presidential bid, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has begun dropping hints that he may be making a run for a Seattle City Council seat.
“I didn’t quite get the traction I was hoping for nationally,” said Schultz Tuesday morning. “But I know if anyone can get behind me, it’s definitely the city I sold out years ago.”
The filing deadline for the upcoming council race has long since passed, but Schultz said that’s only a minor problem. He’s more concerned about deciding which council seat he wants.
“I just need to pick a district, buy a house there, and win it,” from one of his Seattle mansion libraries. “I’m thinking of defeating the communist one, what’s her name? The one that never smiles? I just need to get in there soon, because I’ve got a thing or two to say about that new NHL team.”
Asked about the missed filing deadline and appearance of no local support for his city council campaign, Schultz’s enthusiasm for a new political bid continued unfettered.
“America didn’t know it needed me as its president, and Seattle may not know yet that it needs me as a city council candidate either,” Schultz said. “Luckily for everyone here in the Emerald City, I’m still gracious enough to offer what you want before you know you want it: Your favorite independent, centrist, non-native son. You’re welcome.”
