The closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct has strained traffic around the region for weeks, causing tempers to flare for many – but not for Seattle divorcee Brent Buttinger.
“Seattle Squeeze? Yes, please! We can still get one of those before Monday morning, am I right?” said Buttinger, 56, who was reportedly able to find the humor in the situation with coworkers during a Friday happy hour.
“Sure, my darling Annie left me in Fall 2016 because I wouldn’t go to marriage counseling or therapy even though everything was fine,” Buttinger said. “But I’m a fun-loving guy who isn’t afraid to make fun of himself. When I saw that opportunity to make a joke, I just went for it.”
But his coworkers aren’t so sure.
“Well, to be honest, he could probably take it easy on the word-play jokes where he relates current events to him needing to be touched,” remarked colleague Nancy Evans. “Hey, I laughed as hard as anyone when he said ‘Head Tax? Hell, I could use a head scratch!’ last summer, or even ‘Shake Shack? At this point, I’d settle for shake hands!’ I think what we’re beginning to see here are some serious diminishing returns.”
At press time, Buttinger was reportedly calling his ongoing divorce proceedings “a real no-deal Brexit.”
