Retail giant Amazon announced today plans for a pop-up shop in your parents’ kitchen on the day before Black Friday, or what the company is calling “Black Thursday.”
“Our location data showed that, for some reason, many families gather together in residential dining areas on the day before Black Friday,” said Monty Huang, head of retail experience at Amazon. “We saw this pattern as an exciting opportunity to show consumers the incredible products, services, and experiences Amazon provides.”
The pop-up shop is set to open right in the middle of your parents’ kitchen in order to maximize foot traffic. Seasonal Amazon employees will work overnight to set up kiosks demoing products like the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Fire TV.
While many Amazon customers are excited about this, some critics are calling the Black Thursday shop a bit of an inconvenience.
“Can you please move for a minute?” asked your mom of a seasonal employee. “I need to get something out of the fridge.”
But Amazon is adamant that customers will ultimately see this as a boon for the holiday shopping season.
“We’re very excited to debut this pop-up shop,” said Huang. “Finally, we’re giving our loyal customers a reason to celebrate the day before Black Friday.”
