The annual Seafair Weekend Festival got off to an odd start Friday when the highly anticipated Blue Angels performance turned into what was reportedly just circling Seattle 12 times in an attempt to find a parking spot.
“They were supposed to go on at 3 p.m. but all of a sudden they came early around 1 without doing any of their signature tricks,” said Terry Evers, who watched with confusion from his boat on Lake Washington. “We were trying to figure out what the hell they were doing until we saw the tweets about them going back and forth over Alaskan Way, Lake Washington Boulevard, Pike and Pine. Why does anyone ever think they’re going to actually find parking on those streets?”
Asked for clarification about what happened today, lead Blue Angels pilot Thom Gruise confessed they could not perform their expected show today because they were unable to find parking beforehand.
“Our usual spots we stop in beforehand at the airport were all taken by Kardashian and Taylor Swift private jets,” said Gruise. “So we decided to try to find a place to park up in Seattle to fuel up for the big performance but we just couldn’t find anything. Guys, next time you want to get rid of more parking spots for a new bike path, maybe think of your friends the Blue Angels.”
Despite the airshow performance hiccups today, the Blue Angels said they’ll be back for full performances Saturday and Sunday afternoons so that any local residents who lost their sense of taste and smell to Covid over the last two years can also lose their hearing.
