Local musician Todd Shoemaker has announced on social media that he’s launching a campaign on Kickstarter to raise money and awareness for his relevance.

“My friends, it’s true: I’m finally stepping back into the spotlight with a campaign to fund that spotlight,” said Shoemaker in a short video released today. “A Kickstarter seems like the only way local artists can make music in Seattle now, so here we are.”

Shoemaker, best known for his work as bassist of mid-2000s Seattle indie band Life Taxi for Hottie, had been laying low in the city’s music scene since Life Taxi had broken up due to creative differences.

Kelly Cray, life-long Life Taxi fan, said she’s excited to hop on board.

“Oh, it’s thrilling,” said Cray. “I just feel like I might need my own fundraising campaign to pay for all of these local artists’ fundraising campaigns.”

Shoemaker has a string of local shows lined up in which he will be performing only-bass renditions of classic Life Taxi songs, such as their 2009 hit, “We Have Glasses, Flannel Shirts and Beards and That’s Alright with Me!”

He will be performing his set spontaneously in the alley behind Neumos and the back of the Metro Route 3 bus.
