Seattle residents are applauding the renaming of the International District, colloquially known as “the ID”, to the more inclusive Everywhere District.

“It’s really a big step forward for Seattle,” said Mayor Jenny Durkan as she signed the name into law. “A more inclusive name will make everyone from everywhere feel truly welcome, at least in this particular area of our fair city.”

Progressives cheered the new name as the mayor made the announcement. Longtime Everywhere District residents say they no longer feel marginalized.

“I don’t identify with any one nation or even multiple nations,” said neighborhood resident Jeffrey Park. “Don’t put me in one of your boxes.”

At press time, the ED was being draped with new banners written in Esperanto.

“It was hard to get this one up,” said volunteer July Kim. “But so worth it.”
